Activity Type:
Community Development: Construction/Renovation
Summary: Flagstaff
A local 501c3, Horses, Heros and Hope, provides mental health counseling support and guided rides through an equine program for adults with PTSD. Groups supported include veterans, law enforcement, emergency responders and other adults referred into the program. This project would provide two shelters. One shelter would create a shade/rain structure for mental health counseling support, for up to 10-12 people at a time. Currently, all sessions are conducted outside in the sun and weather. The second structure will house two horses, which are used during counseling sessions and for riding. Currently three horses are housed in a two-horse stall. The third horse is out in the sun/weather, and a fourth horse is needed/planned. In addition, Habitat for Humanity of Northern Arizona - whose executive director is a Rotarian in Flagstaff - will be an in-kind sponsor, donating project management, staff time and their truck to the effort. The plan is over a two day period, both structures will be constructed by Rotarians, families and friends of Rotary and Habitat for Humanity. We will need at least 10-12 volunteers each of two days of construction. Rotary funds will be used to purchase the materials for building the two structures, water and lunch/snacks for volunteers.

We have received your district grant application and hope we can resolve some issues with it. First our records indicate that no one from your club attended the district grant training which is required. The second issue is that your financing plan does not follow the published guidelines of a 2 to 1 match. IF a club puts in up to $1,250 the district will match with $2,500. If can rewrite your application and provide proof of grant training at one of our sessions, and submit the required MOU then the application can be considered.

Your finance plan calls for $1,500 from the club and does not request any DDF from the district. With your $1,500 the district could match with $2,500 which gets you to $4,000. Your proposed financing will fall short of the goal and it won't go through. Do have a source of funds for the shortfall/

Also, the system will not let us move forward with the grant unless all the funds are pledged.

Unfortunately your application was not complete by the deadline and there has been no response to communications asking for information complete it. For that reason the committee will not be able to approve your grant this year.

Congratulations! This project has been approved for full funding. We are not certain when the money will hit your account, but our best guess is a month or so. The district has approved the project now Rotary International will review and approve. We’ll send you an update when we have one. Please also remember that you may not spend money prior to TRF approval and reimburse yourself from grant funds. If there have been changes in your bank account (information for electronic transfer), please get that to Lucinda General (District Treasurer) as soon as possible. treasurer@rotary5495.org. Your report is due April 30, 2025, and receipts are required to complete the report (not invoices, cancelled checks, UPS shipping labels, or any other documents). Thank you for creating hope in the world.

The district grant process is progressing but is delayed somewhat due to the second round of grant submissions. We will notify you as soon as the grant funds are available. Reminder: No money should be spent until the funds are sent to the clubs. No receipts for spending prior to that can be accepted.

After some delay from RI our block grant was approved on Friday August 30, 2024. The funds should be transferred sometime next week. We will be changing the status on your grant to “Approved” as of that date. As has been stated several times RI will not recognize receipts dated prior to August 30, 2024. Also, PO’s and cancelled checks are not acceptable forms of documentation. Please be sure all banking information is up to date.
