Gude Village is a small poor farming community in Tibet, now part of China. One of our club supporters, 100 Friends, a 5013c, has done much humanitarian work in this area of Tibet. It is estimated that $100 for each student is enough to keep one child in school for the school year. One of 100 Friends' contacts, Mr Namkha, has been to Gude Village many times and he knows exactly which students need the most financial support. He will identify 20 of the most needy students, disperse the funds, $100 for each student, and record the expenses. Needs include school supplies, warm clothing (it's frigid in Tibet), shoes, medicines, backpacks, food, and related expenses.
Some of these students have no parents or only one parent; some live with their grandparents. All of the students come from a low-income farming community and have few resources. Some children have to drop out of school to work on the farms. The students receiving this financial support have a better opportunity to attend high school and college, thus helping to create a more fulfilling life for the local families and build the local economy of this area in Tibet.
