Project Description Country: Uganda Location: Uganda Total Budget: $3,700 Area of Focus: None Activity Type: Health: General Summary: To help and improve children’s access to health services that they are generally excluded from because of their age, reduce preventable deaths in children by providing rarely accessible medical care, medication, and nutrition in rural Western Uganda. Project Description: It is estimated, there are 1.2 million children in Uganda who are needlessly suffering from treatable disabilities. To reduce preventable deaths in children, (18 yrs. and younger) children need rarely accessible medical and nutritional care. How will project meet those needs: This project will not all those in need, however it will assist by providing medicines and supplements nutrition or other support for some of the most vulnerable, the orphans of the Busoga Sub-region of Western Uganda for one (1) year. It is estimated 35-55% of children in rural Uganda die due to malnutrition. Timeline: May 20-30, 2024, there was a medical camp which was open to all those in need. Over 4,700 individuals were seen, mainly children. Once identified some of the children must wait for assistance or a sponsor to help with the treatment. Should our grant be accepted, we would work with the Precious Kids Foundation to identify those kids that would be the recipients of these grant funds. Please be specific, what the project funds would be used for... The project funds would be used to provide medicines and/or supplemental nutrition. A child who might be severely malnutrition may not respond well to strong doses of medicine to help combat various illnesses like malaria, tumors, infections, or other illnesses. Giving them strong medications needed to help them further depletes their already fragile bodies, prolonging or hindering recovery. How will members be involved: Due to the fact that this grant is located overseas, Uganda, along with raising the matching funds, members will send cards to the children to lift their spirits. We will notify you as soon as the grant funds are available. Reminder: No money should be spent until the funds are sent to the clubs. No receipts for spending prior to that can be accepted. 31-Aug-24 by Tom McLarty After some delay from RI our block grant was approved on Friday August 30, 2024. The funds should be transferred sometime next week. We will be changing the status on your grant to “Approved” as of that date. As has been stated several times RI will not recognize receipts dated prior to August 30, 2024. Also, PO’s and cancelled checks are not acceptable forms of documentation.
