The Chula Vista Rotary Club will partner with Chula Vista Interact Clubs, The Chula Vista Rotaract Club, Bonita Kiwanis, Chula Vista PD, Chula Vista Fire, Scripps Health, Sharp Hospital, Chula Vista Parks & Rec, The Animal Care Facility and Circulate San Diego among other community partners for a Bike Build/Community Health & Safety Event.
The Chula Vista Rotary Club, Interact, Rotaract and Kiwanis volunteers will build bikes the morning of the event and will give them to selected underprivileged youth. The bike build will be a part of a larger community health & safety event held at the Loma Verde Community Center in Chula Vista from 8:00 am through 4:00 pm - May/June date TBD. We held our successful inaugural event last year with the goal of making this an annual community event.
All youth who receive a bike will attend a Bike Rodeo lead by Circulate San Diego where they learn about bike safety. There will be free swim lessons, healthy snack giveaway by Sprouts Grocery, CPR training, on site emergency vehicle tours, blood pressure testing and other health and safety themed booths to be determined. Underserved youth will have access to safety training that their families may not typically be exposed to. We also want to make the presence of Police and Fire less "scary" and more approachable so if the need arises, there is less fear in reaching out the these departments for help.
In addition to the request for District funding, we will be raising money from other sources to fund our goal of 330 bikes and helmets to give away at this year's event.
