Project Description

Country: USA

Location: New york

Total Budget: $2,000

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: Literacy

Summary: Providing support for

The "Learn to Lead" project is a literacy initiative designed to empower children aged 5 to 12 in Jamaica, Queens, NY, particularly those from minority neighborhoods facing educational disparities. This program specifically targets children who require additional support in reading, writing, and creative thinking skills, areas where local schools often lag behind those in more affluent districts like Manhattan and Long Island.

In Jamaica, Queens, there is a significant population of newly immigrant families, particularly from Bangladesh, whose children may struggle with English literacy. This project will provide tailored assistance to these children, helping them improve their reading and writing abilities while fostering creative thinking. The initiative recognizes that many of these families face economic challenges, making it difficult to access necessary educational resources.

To address these needs, "Learn to Lead" will fund the purchase of iPads and arts materials that children can use to enhance their learning experience. The project is spearheaded by Nadia Saeedi and Shamim Begum, who will implement a structured program where children engage in various activities. These include completing reading and writing assignments, culminating in the creation of essays and business plans that reflect their interests and aspirations.

This practical approach not only builds literacy skills but also encourages entrepreneurial thinking.

The Heritage New York Rotary Club proposes providing selected students with $2000K worth of Ipad count of 6 IPAD. We will select 6 students by assigning writing project of business plan of any kind as part of literacy initiative.

At the end of the program, children who successfully complete their assignments will be rewarded with iPads, providing them with a valuable tool for further learning and development. Through this initiative, we aim to empower disadvantaged children and their families, helping them to overcome educational barriers and fostering a brighter future.
