Community Development: General
Summary: A Thanksgiving initiative focused on providing nourishing meals to those in need while fostering economic growth in underserved areas by addressing food insecurity and supporting local businesses.
Giving Meals, Uplifting Community is a Thanksgiving initiative organized by the Rotaract Club of Manhattan, NYC to address the food insecurity faced by the men residing at the 49th Street Men's Shelter New York. We have identified a significant need for nutritious meals among the residents, especially during the holiday season, when many feel the weight of isolation and limited resources. To meet this need, club members will cook and distribute wholesome Thanksgiving meals to the residents (150 residents).
The project will take place over a three-day period, from grocery purchasing, meal preparation to delivery. Funds raised for this initiative will cover the cost of ingredients, cooking supplies, and packaging materials needed to ensure the meals are delivered safely and with care. Club members will be involved in every stage of the project-from sourcing ingredients to cooking, packing, and personally delivering the meals to the shelter residents. Our aim is to not only provide a festive meal but also to uplift and engage with the community, reinforcing the bonds of support and solidarity.
