Funding will help provide for a full-time Program Director for K-5 West Sedona Public School's Extended Day Program, operating from 6:50 am until the start of school at 8:20 am and 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm. The program is in its 4th year of operation, helping working parents by providing a free wrap-around program for after school clubs. West Sedona School is a Title One school with over 60% of children from low income families and over 60% minorities. The program provides a safe, supervised, on-site location where children can play with their friends and choose their own recreational and educational activities.
A full time program director will enhance the program by coordinating with teachers to provide tutoring and homework help for students who need it, helping them catch up with their peers and preventing them from falling behind. The Director will connect with families to help them take an active roll in their child's learning. (Basic education & literacy)
The children's working parents are an essential part of Sedona's Workforce. Having a healthy, reliable, affordable extended day program for their young children significantly reduces family stress. (Maternal Child Health)
It helps local businesses by allowing workers to arrive and leave onetime, and reducing absenteeism. Fewer young children are home alone or partially supervised by older sibling who also miss out on their own afterschool activities. (Community Economic Development)
