This project is proposed to fulfill funding necessary to purchase and construct the first phase of a proposed new public access children appropriate outdoor community park in Kenai, Alaska.
Vaughn Dosco, the Principal of Kenai Middle School of Kenai, Alaska ("KMS"), with support of other local Kenai Peninsula Borough ("KPB") organizations and businesses, is seeking to build a new public use age-appropriate children's activity park (the "Park") over a multi-year phased construction approach. The new Park includes a proposal for a climbing structure, set of swings, and a gazebo/covered structure, and other outdoor apparatus to encourage public use. The proposed Park grounds are on existing KPB property adjacent to the KMS facilities. Vaughn has been in planning for design and the development phase of the Park since 2020, and has since raised $40k from other local organizations. KPB does not fund projects of similar capacity and use as this proposed Park. I presented on behalf of Rotary (as what we say, act, and do) to the Kenal Lions Club in March 2025, and we agreed that a local park benefits local children and families an opportunity of public accessible outdoor activity. The Kenai Lions Club is proposing to team up with Kenai Rotary to fund and participate to complete the installation of the first phase of the park project (the climbing structure) in 2025/26, as partners for our community. The Kenai Lions Club is planning to donate funds and supply their local resources to support the Park phase one. I am proposing a $4,000 project ($2,000 each Kenai Rotary and 5010 District) and received commitment from my club to provide local resources (one of our members will donate Rotary signage for plaques).
