Annually in August, Greeley-Evans School District 6 hosts the School Kickoff Community
Celebration at Island Grove Event Center in Greeley. The purpose of the event is to welcome
back students and families, and celebrate the beginning of a new school year. Each District 6 student also receives a new backpack filled with school supplies. The event also includes low-cost sports physicals, free immunizations, free haircuts for students, and more than 60 vendors who provide information, services and goods to families. District 6 Nutrition Services also provides a sack lunch to each child who attends. This year's event is scheduled for August 2, 2025, from 9 a.m. to noon
District 6 pays for this event solely through sponsorships. This year, Greeley Redeye Rotary is seeking to be a Middle School Sponsor for the event at a total cost of $5,000. This sponsorship will provide 300 backpacks filled with school supplies to middle school-age students. The event also provides multiple volunteer opportunities for our Greeley Redeye Rotary members, helping to stuff backpacks before the event, working the day of the event and helping to clean up after the celebration.
The School Kickoff Community Celebration is a very important event in District 6, where 67
percent of the students live in poverty. It provides the opportunity for students to start the new school year with the supplies they need, and builds a positive culture of community support.
