Project Description

Country: USA

Location: San Clemente

Total Budget: $7,000

Area of Focus: Community economic development

Activity Type: Community Development: Construction/Renovation

Summary: Build two houses for low-income families facing difficult circumstances in Tecate, Mexico.

We will partner with Club Dust, an Orange County 501c(3) charitable organization (Tax ID: 300083138) to build two houses just over the border in the hills outside Tecate, Mexico. The project beneficiaries are single parents with two or more children living in extreme poverty who lack adequate housing.

Each house will be built in a one-day service event involving 15-25 volunteers. Club Dust will provide a driver and van to take 12-18 Rotarians and other volunteers to the build site and bring them back that same day.

The project also involves collecting donations of items needed by the family, such as diapers, kitchen utensils, etc. and delivering them to their new home. Other District Rotary Clubs will be invited to participate. The Rotary Club of Carlsbad has already shown interest.

Work that is not appropriate for volunteers or is not completed during the build day will be conducted by vetted partner contractors in Mexico.
