Project Description Country: USA Location: McCook, Nebraska Total Budget: $840 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: Literacy Summary: 2 little free libraries ordered, assembled, filled, and placed in central community areas in McCook, Nebraska Little Free Libraries (LFL) are small structures built by organizations or individuals where people can take or give books without payment or a library card. Interest in LFLs is growing in McCook, with four of them built in the summer of 2025 by individual citizens. LFLs fill a gap in education and literacy by providing free, easy access to books throughout the city. Rotary would like to use the grant money to build two more LFLs. One of them will be located on Norris Avenue, close to Norris Park, and the other will be located on Kelley Park walking trail. The funding will be used to purchase LFL kits the LFL website. Any remaining money will be used to fill the LFLs with books. The kits will be purchased in summer 2025 and construction is anticipated to be completed by Fall 2025. Rotary members will be involved in constructing the LFLs, filling them with books, placing them at their locations, advertising them, and registering them on the LFL website.
