The funds will be used to provide scholarships to ten to twelve Interact students to enable them to participate in a mission trip in the late spring of 2026. The destination will be in the United States, but is yet to be determined. We would coordinate with an Interact group in the community we choose, and then have them come to our community to experience rural Nebraska. Possible activities will be working at a homeless shelter, distributing food, and/or serving an immigrant community . These students are from rural Nebraska, and haven't "seen the face" of poverty or immigrant issues in their daily lives. They will gain a new perspective on issues facing these groups of people. Areas of focus would be served as follows:
Peacebuilding happens when people can see the world from another perspective.
The students could help immigrants with their English, which could enhance their basic education and literacy, along with their ability to access health care and secure employment.
Being well fed contributes to disease prevention and child health.
The Interact Club has a Rotarian for a sponsor. He will help with their planning and accompany them on the trip. At least one other Rotarian will go with them on the trip.
In addition, the Rotary Club will have the Interact kids keep us informed of their plans through the year and provide a program after they return.
This could be a life-changing experience for some of the students.
