The Orange Glen Conservation Crew is a start-up youth development organization that trains low-income, underserved middle and high school in wildland management, park building, conservation, and habitat restoration. The OGCC participates in a variety of parkland construction and conservation projects in San Diego County parks and wildland areas. While engaged in these projects, students work with Rotarians to learn positive work habits, teamwork, career readiness abilities, and interpersonal skills while completing projects to enhance the community and environment.
The current grant will support 35-50 Orange Glen High School students who are working to restore and develop Bear Valley County Park, Wilderness Gardens Preserve, and other area parklands. The money will provide work supplies, safety equipment, snacks and water, and materials for interpretive activities. Six Rotarians will work directly with students during their work, providing mentoring, supervision, and career development.
