The proposed project will provide Thanksgiving dinners and winter care kits to 150 guests of Grace's Community Kitchen, a program of Lifting Up Westchester. The guests include homeless individuals, men and women in local homeless shelters and transitional housing, low-income seniors and families, and new immigrants settling into the community. While the individuals' circumstances are varied, they share a common problem: living at or close to the poverty level, and during a time of rising costs, these members of our community are challenged to meet basic human needs of nutrition and health care.
Grace's Kitchen provides breakfast and lunch every weekday; our grant will enable the Kitchen to provide 150 guests with a special holiday meal consisting of two helpings per person of a traditional Thanksgiving menu, plus a to-go lunch bag, and a winter care kit including scarves, gloves, lip balm, throat lozenges and other care products.
Budget: The $4,000 total grant budget will be used as follows:
$3000 for food/supplies for the Thanksgiving meals and to-go lunches. We will contribute the funds to Lifting Up Westchester, which will purchase the following items through its vendors:
For Thanksgiving meals-2 helpings per person; 150 people:

For the To-Go lunches-150 lunch bags
Sandwich fixings: Bread, meat, cheese, peanut butter, Jelly; Oranges; Granola bars or snack bags; Juice boxes
$1,000 for 150 winter care packages, including scarves, gloves, lip balm, throat lozenges and other care products. These items will be purchased by the White Plains Rotary project manager from DollarDays, Amazon, and other suppliers.
Timeline: The project centers around Thanksgiving Day. Lifting Up Westchester will handle the food purchasing and preparation for meal service that day. White Plains Rotary will purchase care package items in late October and assemble care kits prior to Thanksgiving Day. Rotarians will be present at the meal service and help to distribute the care packages to guests.
Rotarian involvement: 8-10 Rotarians will assemble the care kits; 8-10 Rotarians will make sandwiches and assemble to-go lunch bags on Thanksgiving eve; 4-5 Rotarians will help during Thanksgiving meal service.
