Project Title: Bikes for Kids


Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

The La Mesa Rotary Club with volunteers from El Cajon Rotary, La Mesa Sunrise, Mt Miguel Interact and employees of Christian Brothers Restoration, assembled 175 bikes to give to Avondale Elementary and Ridgeview Elementary Schools. The build took place at Christian Brothers warehouse on December 14, 2024 and the La Mesa Rotary Club presented 55 bikes to the Avondale students on December 17, 2024. The La Mesa Rotary Club provided the funds for the 55 bikes for Avondale and Christian Brothers provided the funds for the 120 bikes for Ridgeview Elementary.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 175 students - 55 from Avondale and 120 from Ridgeview

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

Second graders at Avondale were the focus for La Mesa Rotary Club. They were provided with bikes that allowed them not only transportation but also with the health that a bike can provide. Physical activity also helps with mental illness and children who are physically active also learn better.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 20

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

1. Rotarians assembled 175 bikes

2. Rotarians delivered 55 bikes to Avondale School during a school assembly.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

Christian Brothers provided the assembly location, volunteers and trailer for bike storage.
