Objective

Primary goal is To enhance the resilience of Godkhali village against frequent flooding by establishing a well planned mangrove plantation over 3 years

1. Mangrove plantation of diverse range of species along vulnerable coastline of Godhkhali village considering their ecological adaptability , growth rates and benefitting in reducing wave energy , erosion and storm surge impact.

2. Community assessment to identify local need , existing knowledge , livelihood options that can generate extra income . Involving the community to develop a sense of ownership of project .

3. Sustainability : development of long term management plan for the mangrove plantation including regular monitoring , maintainence and capacity building of the community to sustain the project beyond its initial implementation phase .

Project implementation steps

1. Study of topography by club members & expert.

2. Identify suitable area for plantation through site visit & ecological consultation .

3. Consultation with experts like Dr Neera sarkar DPR .

4. Prepare soil by Self help group by laying Geotextile along bank to prevent erosion & seedling cultivation

5. Plantation of mangrove saplings after procurement

According to plan by expert by self help group under supervision of members .

6. Regular monitoring & evaluation of plants by field visit by club members & agency and google camera by agency & share result with Rotary foundation & partners

7. Training of local women on mangrove plantation nursery

8. Training them to learn sewing , making mats & other products out of grass or from sea weed which can be marketed by Rotary SLM & Yi

9. Training to grow marketable local organic red rice .

10. Training to make sanitary napkins for market .

11. Train them in hospitality so that they can undertake tour of mangrove plantation for guest and offer them locally grown food & vegetable .
