Project Description - The Color of Hope
Identified Needs:
Orphaned and abandoned youth in Romania-particularly those of Romani descent-face systemic exclusion from mainstream education, job training, and employment. Despite their creativity and resilience, these young people often lack the skills and support needed to transition into independent adulthood. At Mia's Children, a nonprofit in Bucharest that provides housing, education, and emotional support for these youth, there is a pressing need to offer vocational training that is both accessible and future-oriented.
The digital economy represents a powerful opportunity, yet most of these youth lack access to the technology, mentorship, and structured learning environments required to pursue careers in creative or tech-based industries.
How the Project Will Meet These Needs:
The Color of Hope will establish a Digital Design Studio within Mia's Children, equipping youth with real-world skills in web and graphic design, digital marketing, and content creation. The studio will serve as both a classroom and a micro-enterprise, offering paid internships and freelance opportunities.
Key components of the project include:
- Curriculum development in digital design and entrepreneurship
- Computer equipment and software tailored for creative work
- Training led by Romanian professionals in design, branding, and freelancing
- Psychological support and mentorship integrated into the program
- Partnership development for internships, apprenticeships, and project-based income
Timeline:
The project is designed for a 12-14 month implementation:
- Months 1-2: Studio setup, equipment purchase, and staff onboarding
- Months 3-5: Curriculum finalization and initial student intake
- Months 6-10: Ongoing instruction, project-based learning, and mentoring
- Months 11-14: Internship placements, income-generating projects, and final evaluation
Use of Project Funds:
Grant funding will be used to:
- Purchase computers, licensed software, peripherals, and internet equipment
- Renovate and furnish the studio space
- Support trainer and mentor stipends
- Cover curriculum development and psychotherapist support
- Provide seed funding for internships and student-led design services
Club Member Involvement:
Rotary club members will be deeply engaged in:
- Hosting virtual workshops and guest lectures on entrepreneurship and global markets
- Identifying internship partners and sharing best practices in small business development
- Promoting the project to build awareness and potential replication
- Providing mentorship, especially in marketing, branding, and storytelling
By empowering youth with 21st-century skills, The Color of Hope not only changes individual lives-it builds creative capacity in a marginalized community and shines a light on the power of inclusion and opportunity.
