Salina Cruz is experiencing a critical shortage of drinking water. Population growth, the deterioration of freshwater bodies, and the lack of adequate infrastructure have impacted the health, well-being, and development of our communities. This urgent need demands a sustainable and supportive solution.
The project proposes the installation of a community desalination plant that will transform seawater into quality drinking water, available for families' daily use. This plant will represent a firm step toward water security, social justice, and environmental resilience.
The schedule includes four phases:
- During the first three months, technical and environmental studies will be conducted, as well as obtaining permits (there is an Israeli company interested in the project and obtaining resources from the Global Fund).
- From month 4 to 6, the equipment will be acquired and the land will be prepared.
- Between months 7 and 10, the plant will be installed and connected to the grid.
- Finally, between months 11 and 12, community training will be implemented and the system will be launched.
The requested funds will be used for the acquisition of desalination technology, professional studies, technical training, outreach materials, and technical supervision. The e-club International District 4195; the e-Club of Latin America, and the Rotary Community Corps "WE ARE WATER "Salina Cruz" in formation through Rotary will actively participate in all stages: coordinating inter-institutional efforts, promoting social awareness, overseeing implementation, offering volunteer services, and ensuring transparency. We count on the active collaboration of the Honorable Municipal Council of Salina Cruz, the Salinacrucense Citizens Council, and other organizations that wish to join in order to achieve this great objective.
This plant will not only provide water, but also hope. It's a step toward a more dignified, resilient, and united Salina Cruz.
