The community of Makanzani in Rabai Subcounty, Kilifi County identified a critical need for a local secondary school during a participatory assessment meeting held on 8th September. Parents, teachers, elders, youth, and government officials highlighted that students-especially girls-face high dropout rates due to traveling over 10 kilometers to the nearest secondary school, safety concerns, financial barriers, and the absence of facilities aligned with Kenya's Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). Stakeholders agreed on the urgent need for classrooms, science and digital labs, talent centers, and gender-sensitive facilities to provide accessible, quality education.
This project will address these needs by constructing and equipping a new secondary school in Makanzani, including six classrooms, a science laboratory, a digital library, a computer lab, sanitation facilities, and a talent/musical lab. The school will be furnished with desks, books, and equipment, while teachers will receive training on CBC pathways (Science, Humanities, Talent) and digital skills. A Board of Management and the Rotary Community Corps (RCC) will oversee governance, while the Ministry of Education will assume responsibility for staffing, curriculum, and operational funding.
