There is a need at Kemmerer Child Development Center (KCDC) for more playground equipment. KCDC currently serves approximately 85 students each year. KCDC continues to get more students enrolled in preschool due to a current economic boom. KCDC serves the areas of Kemmerer, Diamondville, Cokeville, LaBarge and Opal, Wyoming. During recess time, there are up to 30 or more students on the playground at a time. Currently, they have only one slide, four swings, a climb through tunnel, an old merry-go-round bike track, and a small climbing structure. Many times, young children are having to wait in lines to play on the equipment. KCDC has a limited time for recess, so many times children are waiting in lines for the majority of their recess. KCDC has a variety of students with different ability levels. With new equipment that can fit their needs, KCDC will be able to better serve them. Some of the equipment they would like to purchase includes transitional playground equipment that will help children gain confidence needed to be safe on regular playground equipment.
KCDC hopes to have this playground equipment installed by October of 2024, but realistically, with the weather in Wyoming, installation might be pushed back to Spring of 2025.
Kemmerer Rotary and Interact members will work with KCDC on this project. KCDC has outside sources for additional funding and is also contributing to this project from their budget. Rotarians will assist with the removal of current landscaping to accommodate the new playground equipment. After the equipment is professionally installed, Rotarians and Interact students will help lay out additional playground bark. The bark will be funded by Lincoln Uinta Child Development Association (LUCDA). The installation will be completed by LUCDA's Maintenance Coordinator, who will be certified to install playground equipment. LUCDA will cover funding for any additional installation costs.
